Andando y Pensando is a Spanish phrase that can be translated as “walking and thinking,” 2 activities that I fondly pursue. But personally, the phrase more specifically refers to a pensive, deliberate approach to ambling through space and time. I like the poetic sound of the phrase, and it fits both my behaviors and the resultant moods. You’re welcome to browse my site and see if it fits your moods too.
I suppose that one might also say that this is the website of a Boomer, finally coming of age. South America has been a dream of mine since childhood. And this site reflects my explorations of that dream. I expect the site to evolve with the inclusion of images, my posts, and if I’m lucky, comments from readers. Thanks for taking the time to stop by.

Don’t see or know if I should be seeing the comment I left yesterday so at the risk of repeating myself, please explain the photo. Is this a market, a funeral? What are they spraying in there?

My friend Tim is referring to the original image I posted when I started the blog. The image is no longer part of the blog since it was taken in Guatemala in 2005, long before this blog began.

Neither, Tim: It’s Good Friday in Santiago de Atitlan, Guatemala and they are preparing a casket to receive a sculpted form of Christ. I never did learn what the Holy Sprayers were doing but it was with such earnest that everyone there was drenched. Each time someone brought out a new piece of cloth to layer in the casket, out came the spray gunners.

Aloha Karl, I finally got your right blog information. I have been enjoying your new life/journey in South America through your eyes. I’ll bet everyday when you wake up you are ready, for whatever life will bring. It is such a cool way to approach your day. We are all on our own journey and I am happy that you took your first steps into making a wonderful and interesting dream come true. In our circle of friends…you are the bravest and really an inspiration to me.
Stay well and open to whatever comes your way. As we Okinawans say Gambatte!!! Love you much.

Just ducky! The cane’s in a place of honor, behind the door. Last night I walked for 2 hours with Jefferson, looking (in vain) for a mythical language-exchange coffee house. This Saturday I’m teaching Tai Chi to my host family in their backyard. Stay Tuned…

Very impressive living your dream’s goal godspeed. Your Uncle Joe had very similar goals, but unfortunately didn’t make it through retirement well. Good luck on your journey traveling the pathway, as others call time. Happy New Year Cousin Karl !!! Safe passages Jimmar !
